Handoffs is a weekly roundup of sports stories and blog posts gathered from around the interwebs that we find interesting, informative, and entertaining.
Yes, Manute Bol died last week, but it was after our last "Handoffs" post was published. Who cares? There won't be a limit to sharing positive stories about the man, especially when he did so many good things for so many people, and especially when so many people may have already forgotten him. I found out he died during a break between pickup games last weekend. When I mentioned it to some of the guys there, they asked, "Who's that?" I was shocked. As Kevin Blackistone writes, "Manute Bol's legacy lives on in Africa." I hope it will here in the U.S. also.
Along the same sad lines, Inhistoric remembers the passing of Darryl Kile, the St. Louis Cardinals pitcher who died in his sleep at the age of 33.
Rick Telander of the Chicago Sun-Times looks at the impact of football on brains.
The Wall Street Journal examines London's plans to keep Olympic stadia relevant post 2012.
Looking for info on why the Portland Trailblazers fired GM Kevin Pritchard? So is everyone else. This headline from Bust a Bucket pretty much reflects how everyone who follows the NBA feels: Kevin Pritchard fired for being too awesome.
Rafe Bartholomew adds to the legend of Black Superman, Billy Ray Bates, posting some images from his research for Pacific Rims. (Also, read my review of Pacific Rims here!)
Was Bernie Brewer stealing signs for Milwaukee? Wezen-ball looks into it.
The 700 Level gives us the wonderful video of Philly Phanatic gettin' his groove on.
UPDATE: I forgot that MLB doesn't like fans posting anything entertaining from any games and quickly removes all videos from YouTube. The fun police have taken this video down as well. There's still a picture though, and that purple thing under the Phanatic is Slider, the other mascot. They are doing some very adult things.
